‘Injury comeback’ Lee Kang-in makes first UCL appearance in four years…’Group of Death’ PSG beat Dortmund 2-0

Lee Kang-in is back in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Dortmund 2-0 in the first leg of their UCL Group F match of the 2023-24 season at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France, on Tuesday at 4:00 a.m. ET. With Newcastle United and AC Milan tied in their group, PSG have a clean start to their UCL campaign atop the group.

Ahead of the match, the starting lineup was revealed. PSG started Kylian Mbappe, Randal Kolo-Mbah a Moute, Ousmane Dembele, Warren Zaire Emery, Manuel Ugarte, Vitinha, Ashraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Milan Skriniar, Luca Hernandez, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. For Dortmund, Donny Marlon started alongside Karim Adeyemi, Julian Leroy, Marcel Xavier, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Marius Wolff, Niko Schlotterbeck, Mats Hummels, Niklas Ziele, and Gregor Kovel.

Mbappe threatened Dortmund right from the start, using his pace to get into the penalty area in the first minute and 20 seconds, before crossing for Kolo-Mbah a Mbah a Moute, but Zouleh was there to make the save. PSG set the tone early on. In the fourth minute, Dembele delivered a sharp free kick. In front of the goal, Lukaku followed up with a shot, but a defender got in his way and he couldn’t direct it properly.

Dortmund countered with a set piece. In the eighth minute, Hummels got the better of Shkreliar, but his header went over the bar. Dortmund suffered an early setback. In the 11th minute, Xavier complained of pain after evading a tackle from Hakimi and was replaced by Felix N’Mecha.

Dortmund capitalized on the injury disruption. In the 14th minute, Malen used a momentary burst of pace to get into the penalty box, but his shot was headed straight at Donnarumma. After surviving the crisis, PSG began to regain control of the game.
