From missed chances to an overzealous pitching error. It was a nightmare day for Doosan’s top prospect Kim Dae-hyun.
Starting in right field for the eighth game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against KIA at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Tuesday, Kim went 0-for-4 and made a throwing error that contributed to the team’s second straight loss.
He had no timing against KIA starter Lee Yi-ri. It started with an infield grounder in the first inning, down 0-1. In the third inning, down 0-2, he had the bases loaded but was unable to capitalize on Lee’s 149-kilometer fastball, which he had been struggling with, by hitting an infield fly to second base. With the bases loaded, Doosan tied the game with back-to-back pinch-hit singles by Lee and Yang and a sacrifice fly by Yang Seok-hwan. In the third inning, Kim was the only one not to smile.
The fourth inning, tied 3-3, was also disappointing. He had runners on second and third with two outs, but on an unfavorable 1B-2S count, he struck out swinging on Lee’s four-pitch slider to end the inning.
Trailing 3-5 in the seventh inning, Kim Dae-hyun had a runner in scoring position with one out, but he was unable to get Kim Yoo-shin to hit a grounder to the second baseman to send the runner to third. 먹튀검증
The defense didn’t help the team either. With the score tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, Choi Hyung-woo singled to right field with runners on first and second. Kim Dae-il, who caught the ball, decided it was too late and tried to throw to third base to catch Socrates Brito, who was trying to steal third. However, he was overzealous and made an inaccurate throw, allowing Socrates to come home. The record shows the runner scored on an errant throw to right field. It was a moment of dedication.
Kim Dae-eun is a highly touted prospect who was drafted by Doosan in the first round of the 2019 KBO Draft out of Whimungo. He was injured in an exhibition game this year and didn’t play his first game of the season until May 31, but he was trusted by manager Lee Seung-yeop to take over the starting right field job, and he was cruising with a 2-for-9 record with one home run and two RBIs in eight games. However, the pressure of being the leadoff man in a week’s time was too much for him, and he didn’t play up to expectations on this day, both offensively and defensively.
